On Monday, November 21, 2022, the Louisville Food Justice Summit was hosted live and in-person at the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center by the Louisville Health Advisory Board (LHAB). We welcomed representatives from 60+ organizations addressing food justice in Louisville.
The aim of the event was to ensure information was shared, connections were made and we each have the opportunity to collaborate, support and supplement efforts to combat food injustice in Louisville – and to showcase work currently underway around accessibility, inclusivity, health, nutrition, field to fork, and food justice in our unique urban landscape.
We approached this event as a platform for the participating organizations and a listening & learning opportunity for all.
Organizations that participated in the Summit can be found in this directory. To include your organization, send an email to louisvillecultureofhealth@gmail.com.
The vision for this summit was grounded in building knowledge and sharing. Our goal with this event was to convene, connect and commit.
Convene with organizations and individuals addressing food justice issues in the Louisville community.
Connect these organizations with each other, the LHAB and UofL Health Equity Innovation Hub to build knowledge of the current landscape.
Commit to next steps that will help solve our community’s food justice issues such as sharing resources, further support and collaboration of each other’s efforts.
Summit attendees were able to hear from the following presenters:
Dare to Care and Greater Louisville Project on their recently released food security research*
Food in Neighborhoods (FIN) with Greater Louisville Food Council and Louisville Food Vision 2030 calls to action*
Smriti Kirubanandan shared best practices and insights from her work in Los Angeles and at the federal level addressing food insecurity
